Our City Tour is a wonderful introduction to Cusco. On this half day tour, you'll gain a great sense of how both the Incas and the Spanish shaped -- and continue to influence -- life in Cusco. You'll visit the Cathedral, Koricancha (the Temple of the Sun), and the Four Ruins: Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. We recommend this culturally informative tour for a first or second day in Cusco; a leisurely stroll around Cusco's archaeological sites is a great way to help you acclimate to Cusco's altitude of 3,400 m (11,150 ft).

LENGTH: approximately 4 hours from pick-up to drop-off
We will pick you up from your hotel at your choice of either 9 am or 1:30 pm. Our tour begins at Cusco's famed Cathedral in the Plaza de Armas which was built in the 16th century and is filled with magnificent paintings. From there, you'll take a 10 minute walk to Koricancha or The Temple of the Sun. Upon this most important temple of the Incas was built the Santo Domingo Church, creating a contrasting example of Incan and colonial architecture. Next, you'll travel by car to explore the Four Ruins: Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. Sacsayhuaman was another Incan temple and the site of religious ceremonies constructed of precisely placed massive stones. Q'enko, a naturally-formed rock formation, is a sacred site inside of which mummifications took place. Puka Pukara, or Red Fortress, is an example of military architecture, strategically placed overlooking the Cusco Valley. After visiting Tambomachay's sacred springs where the Incan elite performed purification ceremonies, you will head back to Cusco to be dropped off at your hotel.
